$101,000 Goal Update – Mon 12th Mar 2012

Here’s the latest update on the goal, and do you hear that screeching sound…?

That’s the sound of a plan screeching to a halt!

Do you hear that crashing sound? That’s the sound of a plan crashing back to earth.

Do you hear that grinding sound? Er, you get the idea.

I got the email from the university application body that told me my status had changed. That only meant one thing, and sure enough, as I logged in to check, my status had changed from ‘awaiting decision’ to ‘unsuccessful.’

Bugger.

You don’t get a reason why, and although that may sound frustrating, I have got used to it over the years. It’s standard format *not* to get feedback from auditions, in fact it’s common to not even hear you have failed – you normally only hear if you have been successful.

Obviously with a university spot, the system is set up so you get told, because you do need to know.

Was I crap? Well, it’s possible. It’s also possible that I was brilliant, and they had me down in the ‘yes’ column before realising they had already taken on their quota of older students, and that fact moved me into the ‘no’ column.

You take a philosophical view with auditions, and anyone who doesn’t need to start doing or they will be in for a rough time in the industry! The fact is, that however you performed or presented yourself, for some reason you did not fill their requirements, and that’s what counts.

Am I alone in being rejected by that college? Hardly!

There were only 30 spaces available, with over 3000 people applying, so the odds were always stacked, and 2969 other people will be joining me at some point on the ‘no’ pile.

So, that’s an idea that would have occupied me for 3 years out of the window. I need to think of something else. I have a few ideas, but would love to hear of suggestions – what adventure do you think I should set out on? Do let me know, I’d love to hear them!

As for the funding side of things, I have finished an audio product which covers the basics of niche selection for people looking to make money online. I have also found out that the site I use to promote my 1-to-1 Article writing tuition is not one favoured by the kind of people I would want to promote it, so will be changing that this week.

Onwards and upwards!

Ok, ’til next time,
Health & Happiness,
Gordon
P.S. Getting things in perspective is something I write about in my book ‘Transform Your Life in 21 Days!’ If you read it and don’t like it, you simply get 100% of your money back – can’t say fairer than can, can I?

  • Knockbacks are the norm on the road to somewhere new Gordon. It’s how we deal with them that counts. I have my fair share and I think that’s why 99% of people choose to stay where they are in life.

    • I couldn’t agree more Peter. If you look at a knockback as simply discovering a new way to *not* do something, the perspective changes totally! You are also right that so many people stick with the safe and known, because that way they can avoid ‘failure’. The down side of that is the sense of being unfulfilled which lies like a blanket over so many people.

In entertainment you go to lots of auditions, and not getting the job is the norm. That’s simply a numbers game, because so many people go for so few spots, actually getting the job is the rarity! Disappointing? Maybe, and nothing wrong with that, but you just accept the decision as par for the course, and move on. Cheers!
