Right then!
Here’s the first in a series of ELO covers I’ve found, which I’ve called ELO Cover Of The Day! To be honest I’ll no doubt expand to other bands, because I do love a good cover version!
To see the others, just type either ‘Cover Of The Day’ or ‘ELO Cover Of The Day’ into the search box top right of any page and you’ll see them all.
First off – Telephone Line. I love the female vocal on this, that grabbed me right from the off. The original ELO version is underneath, so you can remind yourself of it (or hear it for the first time maybe!)
Do let me know what you think!

I liked it 🙂
Thanks Anmol!
I enjoyed that. Thanks.
Yes, I think it’s a nice little version!
Good cover – I liked it! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Laurel! More to come over time, so of them much more obscure ELO tracks in the first place 😉
she has a really beautiful voice. thanks for this
It does add a nice different feel doesn’t it!
I hate the original song, mainly because of how sad it is, but I absolutely love this version. They did a good job and kept to the main theme of the song without going off in a tangent. She has the voice of an angel.
Thank you for sharing this, Gordino! You rock!
Thanks Jim!
I was struck by her voice too when I first heard it, and being a massive ELO fan it got me to searching out any other covers!
cheers,
Gordon
I love this song. I may even have purchased the original , thus breaching the brother code that only you would buy ELO , Garry would buy Elvis Costello and I would buy Abba and we would share (!)
I love to wallow in the misery of telephone songs. Sylvia’s Mother and Clouds across the Moon are two other favourites (though perhaps Telephone man by Meri Wilson is not so melancholy !)
That did indeed breach our code, and you were right to keep it quiet!!!
I agree about the telephone songs, although have never heard of Clouds Across The Monn (I soon will do though!)
No doubt if you did an ABBA cover of the day they would be easier to find, ELO ones are surprisingly thin on the ground. This one is a cracker though! 😉
well, I’ve surpassed myself – I went to you tube to research Clouds Across The Moon, and I saw the single sleeve – I have it myself! Ha!
I wonder what other ‘gems’ I have stashed away…
(mind you, it’s not exactly Jeff Lynne is it) 😉
