The Great Gordino Newsletter – July 11th 2012

Hi,
I hope all is well with you.

It’s been another busy week, trying to get things done, and also trying to fit in enjoyment!

The tennis finished at Wimbledon, and what rattled me the most was a male umpire doing the ladies single final.

It’s been umpired by women before, and I doubt we’ll be seeing a woman umpire the men’s final anytime soon, so why have a male umpire for the ladies final? To me that smacks of old ways of thinking, and Wimbledon need to get up to today’s ideas on that kind of thing!

The theory of the Higgs Boson particle was confirmed by the scientists is Switzerland. I’ve written over many years about how I love what science can do, and this is a massive breakthrough – although even the scientists are not too sure quite what it all means yet!

First mooted by Peter Higgs in 1964, it’s suggested that this particle is the
one that gives every other particle mass, almost like a glue. That’s why it’s often called the ‘God Particle’ because without it there would be no mass.

That’s the theory anyway!

Back to sport, and David Beckham has been left out of the GB football team for the Olympics. He said he cried with devastation, and all his celebrity friends have said they were ‘shocked and disgusted’. The British Olympic team was said to be furious as they had planned to use Beckham in lots of publicity of the athletes.

Coach of the team Stuart Pearce, who was nicknamed ‘psycho’ during his playing career due to his no nonsense approach, took a similar no nonsense approach to Beckham’s exclusion, deciding that he didn’t merit it on football reasons, and that was the end of it as far as he was concerned.

Bravo to Stuart Pearce for not giving in to commercial pressure!

In entertainment, Eric Sykes died. I grew up watching his sitcom and others like it. They were gentle, middle class affairs, and formed a big part of my character, about how I think it’s normal to look at the funny side of things, that acting the fool is not to be looked down on, that smiling isn’t a bad thing!

In other news, the British army is to be downsized from 102,000 to 82,000 by the end of the decade. It’s generally accepted that an army needs to be over 80,00 to even be called an army, anything less and it becomes a ‘defence force’. So, the British army will only just be big enough to exist.

We’d better be careful who we start picking fights with…

I got round to putting a short story up on kindle – called Lighting The Flame, it’s in the romance/erotica genre, so be prepared for some adult flavour!

It’s on a free promotion, (only a couple of dollars after that), and can be found here:
Lighting The Flame
It has an Olympic them to it, so get over and download it and read it before the Games start!

Right, that’s it for this week, keep the feedback coming about all the goal achievement nuggets to be found in these stories!

‘Til Next Time,
Health & happiness,
Gordon
