The Great Gordino Newsletter – Aug 12th 2018

I hope all is well with you as you read this.

I was trying to think of the last time I wrote a newsletter and to be honest, I just couldn’t remember – Let’s just say it was a long time ago!

I then started trying to remember when I wrote the first one, when I started it, and you won’t be surprised to hear I couldn’t remember that either! Safe to that it was also a long time ago – so long in fact, that it was before Facebook, Twitter or any of that stuff. Before the ease of blogging platforms. So far back that it was an email newsletter only. Yes, I then put them up on a basic website, but for all intents and purposes it was email only.

So, why the big gap, and why am I writing this one?

Well, way back when, I started writing 3 times a week, about self improvement, goal achievement & wealth creation, using subjects that had come up during that particular week.

It started to get a lot of subscribers, but I felt I was slightly struggling to keep up with the deadlines, so I went to once a week.

Then I found that I was struggling (again) to come up with new twists. Throw in some mental health issues, and I pretty much stopped writing it.

Unfortunately I stopped just at the time when the internet was taking the next step to a big explosion, and as social media erupted my newsletter was off the grid.

Then when I got back on the wheel, I found myself asking why I would write an email newsletter when I was putting all my views across social media?

It’s a good question, but in recent days, probably the last fortnight particularly, I seem to have been getting nudges to get back into it. A coaching buddy online has been posting content about making our individuality, our story, into our USP. That’s something I’ve always advocated, because it’s something we all have!

I also then got a ‘memory’ nudge on Facebook, about a previous time I had thought of resurrecting the newsletter.

I had also been toying with the idea of pushing my FB group of the newsletter as well.

All of this together has tipped me into giving it a go.

In the newsletter, I can cover some of the bits I post on social media, plus use monetisation techniques, because that’s also something I’m passionate about. I’m less comfortable posting too much about that on my personal profile, plus it’s strictly speaking against their T&Cs anyway!

So, the main thrust of the newsletter will be the same – self improvement, goal achievement, and wealth creation. That comes in the form of appreciating what we already have around us, plus using the opportunity of the internet to turn your passion into profit.

I’ll be talking about stories in the news that catch my eye, and things that I’m up to (remember what I said about our own story being our USP?) 😉
I had thought I’d use this issue as a kind of ‘reintroduction’ issue, but I might well go right in with 2 subjects that push my buttons – sport and entertainment.

In the world of entertainment, this week see the anniversary of Ollie Hardy passing away.
Laurel & Hardy films used to be shown on the BBC regularly here in the UK when I was growing up.

They don’t show them anymore, but as with many things, youtube is our friend!

I still find myslef laughing outloud at Laurel & Hardy films – Ollie’s looks to the camera were a wonderful technique, and the pair of them have enriched my life for decades!
Do you like Laurel & Hardy? Or, as a younger friend said to me not that long ago, have you never even heard of them!!??

Another passion of mine is sport, and someone asked me during the week what sport I was watching at the moment. My answer was ‘nothing really’, which surprised both of us!

The Premier League football starts this weekend, but I’ve been turned off that for many years with all the diva behaviour.

There are the European Championships also going on, a new event combining the previous European Championships of athletics, rowing, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, rowing. So, a pretty big deal in the world of multi sport events.

It didn’t seem to grab my attention though, mainly because a lot of those sports are not too high on my list of ‘must watch’, plus I do tend to prefer full World events if possible. Add my attempts to cut down the amount of sport I watch, and I’ve missed most of it. I might watch some cycling road racing and athletics finals tonight…

So, there we are.

An experiment/reintroduction to see how I get on back with The Great Gordino Newsletter.

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

‘Til Next Time,
Health & Happiness,
Gordon
