The Great Gordino Newsletter Aug 19th 2018

I hope all is well with you as you read this!

Music –
Aretha Franklin passed away this week, on the 16th. She had been seriously ill for a week or so, so it wasn’t unexpected. I was talking to a friend who said it was so sad, ‘a tragedy’. I asked her to name 3 Aretha Franklin songs, and she couldn’t even name one. That’s the way it is with the social media grief sharing these days, isn’t it!

Personally, I’m not overly knowledgeable about her catalogue either, so off the top of my head it was ‘Say A Little Prayer’, her duet with George Michael ‘I Knew You Were Waiting’, and then her version of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’.

Someone else who also did a great version of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ is Elvis. I’ve enjoyed his live version from Vegas 1970 for over 30 years since I first heard it. Of course, he also died on Aug 16th, and even as an 11 year old back in 1977 I remember the fuss about it.

A birth on Aug 16th to note is Madonna, back in 1958. Lots of media to mark her 60th, looking back at her career, and an impressive one it’s been too! A mix of good stuff and tat in my opinion – one or two corkers, I’m not a mahoosive fan, but hat’s off to what she’s achieved!

Sport –
Tottenham Hotspur’s fancy new stadium won’t be ready – surprise surprise! Stadium builds or developments are always plagued with delays, and way back at the beginning of the year when the NFL was unable to confirm their date at the new stadium, I said it wouldn’t be ready, and here we are!

Lots of ramifications to come I’m sure, because there’s a sense of Spurs stringing people along – if you’re going to push back the dates/announcements due to delays, then you’d better get them right, surely? To get the pushbacks wrong suggests they knew along it would never be ready, and to look at the pictures in the media it must have been clear, with ‘insiders’ now saying parts of it won’t be ready for months. Whoops.

In the internet marketing world, I saw another great presentation. It was another nudge to me about what seems to be the flow of things at the moment – being yourself.

Trying to be anonymous, or trying to copy someone else leaves you with ZERO chance of standing out, so the advantage that anyone has, and we all have it, is to be ourselves! This ties in 100% with my Online Passion Profits theme, in fact I’d say it was the core of it.

Time to act further on these nudges I’ve been getting lately, part of which of course is dipping my toes back into writing this very newsletter!

Right then, that’s covered music, sport, and internet marketing – time to sign off for now!

Do let me know what you think,

‘Til Next Time,
Health & Happiness,
